During the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, I had an in-home appointment that had a serious impact on me.
The apartment was very small and I was sitting in the kitchen helping a nice lady understand her Medicare benefits and options. During our conversation her husband came home from the food bank with a box of food. She excused herself and got up quickly to see what they had in the box. To her extreme delight, there was a box of Red Berry Special-K.
At first I did not think much of it, but as I continued to watch her, her excitement and joy, you would have thought it was Christmas morning. This couple lived a very modest and humble life. A simple thing like a box of her favorite cereal meant so much to her. For the next few days I could not get her excitement, and this experience out of my head. I volunteered with some youth at the local food bank and got an even better perspective of the need in our community.
So as part of my business plan I decided to give back. I wanted to tie the growth of my business with an opportunity to give back and get others involved. Sparked by my "Special-K" experience, I knew I wanted to give to and support the the Idaho Food Bank.
According to the Idaho Food Bank's website, 1 in 8 Idahoans lives with hunger and every $1 donated can provide up to 5 meals.
I donate $5 to the Idaho Food Bank for every appointment I have with someone needing Medicare education and options. It may not seem like much, but small things can become great things.
This has made my work more exciting because it gives me even more purpose and drive to succeed. I believe we can all help create small miracles in the lives of those around us. In this crazy world, we need to care for each other and try to lift one another up . This is my simple and small attempt to do so.
